Specialized nerdity
I figured something out about myself. I’m admittedly a nerd. I’ve been “into” computers ever since I was 5, and waited until my older brothers left for school, so I could mess around on their C64. I’ve had enough jobs that involved computers that I started delving into graphic design, then web design, and then video editing, all in the 90’s, and not only did I...

Short answer: Electricity will find the shortest route to ground itself. It WANTS to ground itself, even if that means going through your expensive amp, or through your XLRs. In the US, electricity…

Insults that say a lot
I’ve been reading through the Bible since the beginning of the year, and I breezed through the familiar story of David and Goliath a few weeks ago. I haven’t, however, been able to just move on, even though I’m finishing up Isaiah right now. I keep thinking back to the life of David. I’ve been thinking specifically about the taunts used in the epic showdown, and what they...

The #1 secret of graphic design →
It’s pretty simple, actually. It’s obsessive attention to detail. I don’t think this just applies to graphic design, either. My friend, Micah Garman (@micahgarman) is a great guitar player. But…
Balancing projects
I’ve got 2 completely different magazine layouts that I’m working on at the same time, right now. The hard part isn’t coming up with ideas, or being creative. It’s focusing on one project, and neglecting the other, until it’s time to swap it around.
If you send me a flyer with dated, cheesy or overused type, it’s like...

Extra income for your startup church →
One of the tougher aspects of running tech in a startup (and/or) portable church is the cost of equipment. You’re stuck between cheap, home-quality equipment, that breaks easily and has low-grade…

Frustrating
I wrote my own podcasting app in PHP a long time ago, but it’s worked so well I’ve never had to really tweak it. But any mp3’s ending with the letter “P” in the filename are getting the trailing “p” truncated. WEIRD. Now I’ve got to go figure it out.
Update: Turns out it was a quirk with the trim() function in PHP. Still not sure why, and I...

“Live” is “Evil” spelled Backwards →
It seems to me that one of the tech “milestones” for a startup church is recording the service. Once you get there you can sell/give CDs of the service, let the pastor listen to his sermons (if he…
